COMMUNITY HOUSING
VISION CASHIERS TASK FORCE:
COMMUNITY HOUSING
The Community Housing task force seeks to create affordable rental and home ownership opportunities for the area’s full-time workers, especially teachers, nurses and medical staff, and managers.
The task force wants to build appropriate and affordable single family housing. It contracted for a housing study, funded by a grant from Dogwood Health Trust. The consultant studied the market and surveyed major employers. The demand exists for more than 400 units. These would be built for the area’s full-time workforce within a structure that enables and encourages local employers to participate financially on behalf of their employees. This structure would also encourage tax-advantaged capital formation through the Vision Cashiers public charity, which would assist in securing conventional financing and traditional investor interest.

Our initiatives will complement the most recent “Urban Land Institute study” created over the last year by the Chamber of Commerce and supported by Vision Cashiers, Jackson County and the Cashiers Planning Council.
After consulting with the stakeholders and the primary employers of the community, we determined this location to be ideal for affordable rentals and home ownership.
Here are some examples of potential affordable housing options.
