VISION CASHIERS TASK FORCE:
EDUCATION
TASK FORCE LEADER:
Dr. Joy Brown Clark
The Education task force is dedicated to enhancing education and educational opportunities for our young students.
Among its initial accomplishments the task force has:
- Designed and created school celebration banners, building community pride.
- Assisted in creating a generic scholarship application form to be used by area donor organizations.
- Held a career conference for 6th to 8th graders at Blue Ridge and Summit schools. It was the first time the students attended an event together.
The Education task force is dedicated to enhancing education and educational opportunities for our young students.
Its most successful accomplishments for the task force is the sponsorship these programs:
- Thrive 101 for Seniors at Blue Ridge Early College and Summit Charter School: How to thrive and not just survive after graduating high school. It is a day of learning soft skills like introducing a friend, shaking hands, business lunch etiquette, as well as networking, and learning to be resilient when faced with failure, and finally, team building, effective communication, and appropriate self-advocacy skills. The kids love it and enjoy being with students from other schools, too! We partner with the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau for this event.
- Junior Cashiers Leadership for juniors at Blue Ridge Early College and Summit Charter School. Its focus is on leadership, of course, and includes self-assessment, team building, conflict management, creative problem solving, as well as learning from leaders in the community and leadership opportunities in the community. We partner with the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau and the Cashiers Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Cashiers Class of 23 for this event.

- Partner with the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, whose after-school program includes 65 percent of the student population of Cashiers.
- Provide volunteers to help at Summit and Blue Ridge schools and their events.
- Support the Blue Ridge summer school program through weekly celebrations for students and staff.

Embark on a transformative journey as a Champion of the Arts with Cashiers Public Art Initiative.
Join us in these endeavors, including the exciting projects in the pipeline. Seize the opportunity to be a driving force behind the artistic renaissance of Cashiers.
Public art reflects and reveals our society, adds meaning to our cities and uniqueness to our communities.

The Bascom’s Biennial Outdoor Sculpture Program consists of a widely publicized call to artists to submit outdoor sculptures for consideration. Five are selected for The Bascom campus and two for Cashiers. The Bascom recommends a number of sculptures to Vision Cashiers and works with the Public Art Task Force to select the strongest fit for selected sites. The determination of which sculptures are selected and where they are placed is solely the decision of the Vision Cashiers Public Art Task Force.
Vision Cashiers coordinates with property owners regarding the site and installation of the sculpture and assumes all costs associated with siting and pouring the concrete pad for the sculptures. The Bascom provides funding for the artists which includes a $1500 honorarium. Additionally, both Vision Cashiers and The Bascom enter into an agreement with the property owners which provides for mutual indemnification. The Bascom follows its standard protocol for the sale of any work on display during the exhibition of the sculptures. Should an artwork on exhibit sell during the period, the artist will receive 60% of the sale proceeds and The Bascom will receive 40% per The Bascom’s standard agreement with exhibiting artists. The price of the sculpture is determined by the artist.
